Doing something “BIG” for God Every Day!!!

Doing something “BIG” for God Every Day!!!

Scriptures:
Genesis 6: 15-16
Matthew 25:31-46
Matthew 10:42

I was talking with a friend a short while ago and she mentioned to me that everyone was talking about doing something BIG for God….something BIG for God she said again. She wanted to find what her BIG for God was!

I started thinking about it and pondered in my head “Doing something Big for God”….what does that exactly mean? What exactly is Big? What’s Big enough??

In this world we constantly measure by size…..small, tiny, large, little, huge, great, micro, more, less….there are so many words to describe so many measurements of things and the things we do in our world.

BUT what may seem small to us may be very BIG in God’s eyes.

God is the creator of this world and measurements are a part of his creation. He is a God of weights and measures. He instituted size and uses it all throughout the entire Bible. When I was thinking about doing something BIG for God, Noah and the Ark came to mind. When God gave Noah instructions to build the Ark God told him specific measurements.

Read Gen 6:15-16
15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high.16 Make a roof for it and finish the ark to within 18 inches of the top. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks.

Noah and his family who would all be saved from the flood were being obedient and doing something VERY BIG for God!! But imagine, if one of Noah’s son’s while working on the boat had left, say a 6” plank out of the bottom of the boat… they all could have perished.
You see, the little what may seem insignificant things we do every day matter so much! One small item had as much significance to God as the “BIG” completed ark!

In our searching for serving BIG is there anything too small for God? Serving God is about people. Period.

Read Matthew 10:42
42And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward."

Bigness is about affecting the lives of people.
Is anything too small when done in Jesus’ name?

Read Matthew 25:31-46
31"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

46"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

Everyday we have encounters with people and we are involved in activities that affect other’s we do and do not know. We have the opportunities and must pray for them and ask God to open our eyes and hearts, because in Jesus’ sight, these things we do are something marvelously HUGE for God!! Watch for them! Sometimes just a friendly hello or sign of interest in a person is all they need to have received that small cup of water. We shop for groceries, get gas, go thru the drive-through, return things at Wal-Mart, we talk to our children’s teachers, have children over to play with our kids, or ask someone from church over though you don’t know them well. Everything we do involves people. Do we recognize and remember these people when we go about our daily business and activities or are they only just serving us in some way? Are these people becoming a part of our lives?

God please forgive me that many times I have overlooked opportunities and missed a blessing. Help me be accountable and diligent to open my eyes the next time.

God is the institute of all measures and His measurements go way beyond our comprehension as to what is Big or great in His sight. Nothing is too small when done in Jesus’ name for someone else, as we may be touching a life and meeting a need that no one else may have the opportunity on this earth to do but us.
